Apple Announces iPhone 17e With A19 SoC And Proprietary C1X Modem

Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 17e, a new entry-level model designed to balance high-end performance with a more accessible price point. The device introduces several significant hardware upgrades, including the transition to a 256 GB base storage capacity and the integration of Apple’s first proprietary 5G modem.

At the core of the iPhone 17e is the A19 chip, built on a 3-nanometer process. Featuring a 6-core CPU and a 4-core GPU with hardware-accelerated ray tracing, the chip is reportedly twice as fast as the iPhone 11.

A key technical highlight is the C1X modem. This Apple-designed component offers up to double the speeds of previous entry-level models while consuming 30% less power than the modems found in the iPhone 16 Pro series. This efficiency contributes to improved battery life, even during heavy 5G usage.

Display and Build

The device features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with 1,200 nits peak HDR brightness. Durability is enhanced by Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple claims is three times more scratch-resistant than previous generations. The aerospace-grade aluminum chassis is IP68-rated for water and dust resistance and now includes the customizable Action Button.

Camera and Software

The imaging system is headlined by a 48 MP Fusion camera capable of 2x optical-quality telephoto crops. It supports 4K Dolby Vision at 60 fps and spatial audio recording. Running on iOS 26, the device utilizes “Liquid Glass” visual design and native Apple Intelligence for tasks like real-time call translation and visual lookups.

Pricing and Availability

The iPhone 17e is available in Light Pink, White, and Black. Pre-orders are expected to begin in early March, offering a high-performance alternative for users seeking the latest Apple Silicon and AI features without the “Pro” price tag. In the United States, the pricing starts at $599 for the 256 GB and $799 for the 512 GB variant.
